Phase II and III National Cancer Institute Sponsored Clinical Trials

April 1, 2008 TRICARE began providing benefits for National Cancer Institute (NCI) sponsored Phase II and III clinical trials.  Prior to this, beneficiaries could participate in the Department of Defense Cancer Treatment Clinical Trials Demonstration.  The demonstration ended March 31, 2008 but anyone participating in a trial under the demonstration will continue to receive benefits under the demonstration.

Phase II trials provide preliminary information about the anti-cancer effects of drugs or preventive agents, usually focusing on a particular type of cancer. Phase III trials compare a promising new treatment against the standard treatment. To learn more about NCI sponsored clinical trials go to the National Cancer Institute Web site

To learn more about the TRICARE benefit for phase II and III NCI sponsored clinical trials go to TRICARE's Web site or contact a Humana Military case manager.  A Humana Military case manager can be reached by calling 1-800-444-5445 and requesting to speak to the NCI Clinical Trial case manager.
